October 10, 2017
Carey Services officials announced they are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month during the month of October as part of a National celebration.  On October 24, 2017 at 10 am, Carey Services will be recognizing employers in the past year who have been strong advocates for community employment for individuals with disabilities. The celebration will be in the Mark R. Draves Executive Boardroom at their Building A at 2724 S Carey Street in Marion. Light refreshments will be served. Interested parties can call Tim Kendrick, Employment Services Manager, at 765-668-8961 (ext. 165) with questions. The community is invited. At this event, Carey Services will engage participants in discussion regarding how our community can continue to empower people with disabilities in the workplace.
Additional activities at Carey Services will include education through Carey’s social media outlets, community presentations and presence, and through their website.
Carey will be celebrating the many individuals with disabilities in the local workforce, and employers in Grant and surrounding Counties who embrace people with disabilities as part of their workforce.
Jim Allbaugh, president/ceo for Carey Services stated, “This is a great time to celebrate employment for people with disabilities.  Our celebration is really a year-round celebration as we continue to assist individuals and families to turn abilities into opportunities; and that includes opportunities in the workplace.”
Allbaugh noted the theme for this month’s celebration is "Inclusion Drives Innovation."
Greg Maynard, director at Carey Services indicated, “Grant County employers have been open to embracing individuals with disabilities in their workforce, but there is still more work to be done to assure individuals with disabilities have employment opportunities.”  Maynard noted, “Individuals with disabilities provide quality products and services, and are a vital part of our workforce.”
Carey Services celebrates and promotes this awareness each October. It is important to note that, “despite our successes, less than 40 percent of working-aged Hoosiers with disabilities are employed; a reminder that we all still have work to do to ensure equal opportunity and participation in the workforce.’”

Allbaugh noted, “We do still have work to do, but the Vision statement for Carey Services is driving our efforts for success for people with disabilities and employment:  “Carey Services envisions all people, regardless of their abilities or barriers, as empowered and equally valued members of the community.”
