The MPO will present its 49th season in 2018-19 entitled "New Dawning." Another exceptional series of concerts will begin on Thursday, September 27, 2018, with the Annual LaRita Boren Children's Concert in the Indiana Wesleyan University Chapel Auditorium.  Select MPO musicians will perform this concert in collaboration with the Taylor and IWU Orchestras.  This concert is open to the public and free of charge.
A subscription series of three concerts will follow including the Opening Concert, "American Masters," at the Ritchie Walton Performing Arts Center, Marion High School, on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at 3pm; "MLK Tribute" at the Rediger Chapel Auditorium, Taylor University, on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 7:30pm; and a Chamber concert, "Evening of Serenades," at the First United Methodist Church, Marion, on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 7:30pm. The guest artists featured this season are pianists Jonathan Kroll and Daniel Lin and the voice talents of Art Faulkner.

The MPO has had a tradition of hosting a concerto/aria competition for high school students and students from Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor Universities. This year it will be held on Saturday, November 17, at 9am at the Butz-Carruth Recital Hall, Taylor University. Participants must submit a completed application form and entrance fee; however, the event is free for the public to attend. The application form can be found on the MPO website at The MPO also has an annual fundraising event. This season the fundraiser will be a dinner/dance at Roseburg Event Center, Marion, on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 6pm, featuring the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra.

As a community orchestra for patrons of the Grant County area, the MPO partners with generous donors each year to provide rich musical and educational experiences.  This past season, the MPO engaged more than 1700 young people in its programming through concert attendance, production assistance, performance opportunities, and internships.
Since it began in 1969, the orchestra has evolved from a group of local volunteer musicians into a professional symphony that features the finest musicians in the state in the most beautiful and intimate venues in the county. This season, the MPO will commence a new chapter in its history under new leadership. After the countless hours and efforts of many in the long process of selecting a new conductor, the decision has finally been made. Of the three conductor candidates from last season, Maestro Matthew Kraemer has been selected as the new conductor! The MPO is excited to see how the orchestra will flourish under his creative guidance.
