SUMMARY:IWU to host event on ending poverty in Yemen
DESCRIPTION:Indiana Wesleyan University will host a seminar shedding light on the humanitarian crisis occurring in Yemen over the past several years. The event\, titled Hope for Yemen\, will take place at 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday\, April 9 in the Globe Theatre on IWU's Marion campus. \n\n \n\nThe seminar will focus on the disastrous effects of Yemen's civil war\, which is entering its fifth year. Tens of thousands of Yemenis have perished and over 20 million people are suffering from hunger and disease. \n\nGuest speakers include:\n\n	Nawal al-Maghafi | Special Correspondent\, BBC News\n	Awssan Kamal | Head of Humanitarian Campaigns\, Oxfam International\n	Scott Paul | Humanitarian Policy Lead\, Oxfam America\n\nIWU is hosting Hope for Yemen in partnership with Oxfam\, a global organization working to end the injustice of poverty. Oxfam's approach is about tackling the conditions that cause poverty in the first place\, rather than the distribution of material goods. While in Indiana\, the Oxfam team will also speak in Indianapolis and at Notre Dame University.\n\n\n\n"We are excited to welcome this team of speakers to campus to shed light on this heartbreaking topic\," said Dr. Scott McCullough\, associate professor of mathematics & physics at IWU. "Yemen's little-known war is now the world's worst humanitarian crisis. People I know personally friends and neighbors are struggling to feed their families and purchase basic medicines. We can make a difference."
