He is currently the No. 2 rebounder in school history. After graduation in 1977\, Benson played basketball professionally as the No. 1 draft pick for the Milwaukee Bucks and later played for the Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz before finishing his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He wore jersey #54 for his entire career.
