SUMMARY:MPO Announces 2017 Concerto|Aria Competition for Young Artists and New Award for High School Division Winner
DESCRIPTION:The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra will host the 28th Annual Concerto|Aria Competition at 9 a.m. on Saturday\, November 18\, 2017\, in the Baker Recital Hall at Indiana Wesleyan University. The competition is sponsored by its inaugural winner\, Dr. Steve Hyman\, and the MPO Friends. Young artists will compete in two divisions: the High School Division (open to all Indiana high school students) and the Collegiate Division (open to collegiate students in Grant County). Participants must be age 25 or younger by 11/18/17 and will be given 10 minutes to perform a movement from the standard repertoire that has orchestral accompaniment. Memorization is not required.\n\n \n\nNEW THIS YEAR: the first place winner in the High School Division will be given exclusive access to a dress rehearsal and concert\, where they will be recognized on stage. The winner will also have the opportunity to share a meal with the Maestro\, President of the board\, and Executive Director! The first place winner in the Collegiate Division will be given the opportunity to perform on a regular season concert as a featured soloist with the MPO. The Second-place winner of the College Division may be chosen as an alternate if the first place winner is unable to perform.\n\n \n\nBoth division winners will receive a cash prize of $250. The competition is open to strings\, woodwinds\, brass\, piano\, organ\, voice and percussion. Interested participants must submit the attached application along with a non-refundable $25 entrance fee no later than 11/8/17.
