DESCRIPTION:The Taylor University Wind Ensemble from Upland\, Indiana is pleased to present a concert titled "Golden Sounds of the American West" on Saturday\, March 14\, at 1:00 pm in the Clowes Court in the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art located at 500 West Washington Street\, Indianapolis\, Indiana. The band program has been constructed to work in tandem with the March 7-August 9 exhibition titled Gold! - Riches-and- Ruin\, which explores the historical and cultural significance of gold in the American West. This exciting exhibit looks at historical gold rushes in California\, the Black Hills\, and the Yukon-Klondike and features objects and images that tell the stories of people\, their relationships with the landscape\, and the gold they sought and took from it. \n\n \n\nDirected by Dr. Albert Harrison\, Professor of Music and chair of the Taylor University Dept. of Music\, the 45-member wind ensemble will perform American Overture for Band by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins\, Gold Rush by Shin'ya Takahashi\, Gold Rush Rag by Stephen Kent Goodman and Council Oak by David R. Gillingham.  An historical character enactment of Bishop William Taylor and his role in ministry in California during the gold rush period of 1849-1857 will be presented by Evan Koons\, a Taylor University junior music performance major from Cincinnati\, Ohio.
