Taylor University Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Combo Fall Concert
Taylor University Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present "Rhythm of the Night". The program will feature classic and contemporary big band jazz and combo music and is free to the public.
Funk and rock selections include Sam’s Boogie, Slammin,’ (a tune made famous by Huey Lewis and the News), and Engine Number 9 by Les Hooper. Latin flavored selections include Rhythm of the Night and Soul Sacrifice by Carlos Santana. Classic big band works to be performed include Moten Swing and Lonely Street as performed by the Count Basie Band. Uptown Stomp, a classic 40’s swing tune in the style of Gene Krupa, will feature the percussion and rhythm section.
Student soloists for this concert are Gardner Stewart and Cameron Eckmann on saxophones; Daniel Morrison, trombone; Jon Warren, keyboard; and Zach Hensel, piano. Guitar solos are featured through the evening with work by Roscoe Rea and Joshy Kongmaneechachawal. Professional trumpeter and combo instructor, Jeff Anderson, will also be featured in several solos. Anderson is the founder, director, and lead trumpet player for the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra.
