Taylor University Wind Ensemble Fall Concert "Music of the People"
Taylor University Wind Ensemble will present “Music of the People”.
This concert will feature a variety of selections representing various cultures of the world including Israel, Africa, Europe, and the United States. Several American patriotic band pieces will also be performed as part of the concert, including American’s We March by Henry Fillmore and George M. Cohan Patriotic Fantasy. Other selections to be performed include Africa: Ceremony Song and Ritual by Robert Smith, Rejouissance by James Curnow, At the Strongholds of En Gedi by David Holsinger, and highlights from Les Miserables arranged by Johnnie Vinson. Sholom Aleichem, a festival of Hebraic melodies, will also be included on the program.
As part of the program, Dr. Larry Helyer, Bible Professor Emeritus from Taylor University, will present a brief overview of Israeli folk music and current applications as witnessed in a recent trip to Israel. He will also share information about the En Gedi region of Israel where David and his band of men fled from King Saul and his soldiers.
In addition, Dr. Charles Kirkpatrick will present an update on the development of the Samuel Morris Institute in Liberia and will speak about connections between the ministry of Bishop William Taylor in Africa during the 1880s and the tribal people of Samuel Morris.
