The Essence of Christmas with Marion Philharmonic Orchestra
Marion, IN – November 30, 2015 The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the Christmas season in one of the most fitting and unique venues of the season, the 92-year-old sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Marion. You’ll hear Mozart’s festive “Sleigh Ride,” a masterful performance of his “Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra” with the MPO’s own Trudy Whitford and Melissa Frecker Welch, and sing along with familiar carols and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” The Indiana Wesleyan University Singers will also perform the exciting Vivaldi “Gloria” with guest artists Julie Lyn Barber and Lauren Walker. Tickets are available at the church daily or by calling 765-662-0012.
This concert is the third event of the MPO’s 2015-16 Season, “A Symphony for the Senses.” The series is filled with performances that will rejuvenate the senses and please a wide range of musical tastes. For more than 45 years, the community it serves has generously supported the MPO, demonstrating a mutual commitment to the arts and cultural vitality of Grant County and the surrounding area. With such support, the orchestra has flourished since it began in 1969 with a small group of volunteer musicians into a professional symphony with high artistic standards and educational initiatives that provide the framework for each season. Some of the finest musicians in the state will be featured again this year along with several accomplished guest artists under the direction of Maestro Alexander Platt in the most beautiful and intimate venues in the county.
