Featuring 2018-2019 Collegiate Concerto/Aria Competition Winner Steven Christophersen
The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra will commence its 50th Concert Season with “Sci-Fi Spectacular.” This opening night concert will be on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium, LaRita Boren Campus Center, Taylor University, Upland. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The performance is the first of the 2019-2020 season "Fifty and Forward." This concert will be an evening of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
Selections chosen for this program include music from some of the most well-known science fiction movies, including Star Trek, Back to the Future, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Star Wars. Those planning on attending this concert are encouraged to dress as their favorite Sci-Fi character. Also performing at the concert will be the 2018/2019 winner of the MPO’s Young Artist Competition, clarinetist Steven Christophersen. Mr. Christophersen will perform the third movement of Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in E-flat Major. New this concert: our Maestro Matthew Kraemer will give an extra insight to the music of the evening by giving a pre-concert talk at 6:45. After this talk, patrons will have the opportunity to take pictures with storm troopers in the lobby before enjoying the live movie music.
