MARION — Are you smarter than a fourth-grader? Frances Slocum Elementary fourth-graders may know a few things you don’t after weeks of Genius Hour research. You’re invited to come out and hear what they’ve learned!
The Genius Hour research fair will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, in the school’s gym. Family and friends and any others interested are invited to attend.
Through Genius Hour — one hour out of one school day each week for nine weeks — fourth graders got to drill down deep into a topic that interested them, with student teachers helping to guide them through this project-based learning. Students took interest inventories, then the teachers helped them narrow those interests down to top choices, and students were then grouped based on that, in 15 groups of 3 to 5 students.
Genius Hour topics to be presented Friday include fashion, video games, the Civil War, robotics, magic, and more. Student groups will use various tools to present their findings, including video, PowerPoint, models, diagrams, and posters.
These students are proud of what they’ve learned and they’d love to share it with you!
