Affordable Housing Corporation Receives $10,000 Grant to Complete Project RHO Supportive Housing Units for Grant County Residents

The Affordable Housing & Community Development Corporation (AHC) has received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Grant County to complete eight housing units for Grant County residents as part of its Project RHO, a permanent supportive housing development at 2201 South Washington Street, Marion, IN, 46953.

Currently under construction, Project RHO’s units will be part of a four-duplex development, including two fully ADA-accessible units. The development serves individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, people who often face justice system involvement, limited income, poor credit history, or past housing instability. Full occupancy is expected by the end of 2026.

"We greatly appreciate the community foundation’s faith in Project RHO and the people it will support," AHC Executive Director Lorri Cox said. "This project is bigger than a building. It represents a community coming together to create hope, opportunity, and lasting impact for Grant County."

The Foundation's grant, awarded through the WindSwell Foundation Fund, will help move the project across the finish line. The funding supports completion of construction, brings the property up to quality and accessibility standards, prepares units for move-in, and helps cover the monthly community partner meetings that keep residents' wraparound services coordinated.

Traditional rental housing options often are a barrier for supported residents and leave them isolated in transitional programs or unsafe living situations. Project RHO pairs each unit with on-site case management and a network of community partners providing mental health treatment, independent living skills, employment and education support, financial counseling, and family-focused services.

The project has drawn support from across the county. AHC has shared the vision with Rotary International, Kiwanis International, Radiant Health, and other groups over the past several months, and the project team works alongside Halstead Architects and Limberlost Construction through bi-weekly on-site meetings.
