Marion High School Alumni Association Honors Scholarship Recipients

Marion High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce 45 scholarship awards totaling more than $37,000 for 20 outstanding Marion High School graduating seniors! 

MHSAA is proud to note that this is another record-setting amount, and it includes two new scholarships awarded for the first time this year. MHSAA is grateful for our collaborative relationship with Marion Community Schools and the community, which enables us to help provide excellent opportunities for Marion students!

The following awards were announced at the MHSAA meeting on April 28 at the school:

 

Jack and Dave Colescott MHSAA Scholarship

New this year! To recognize Marion Giants who display that most-important quality: sportsmanship

Shaeli Castaneda, $2,000 scholarship winner

Shaeli ranks ninth in the Marion High School Class of 2026. She is vice president of Spanish Honor Society; an officer for Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society; and a member of Science National Honor Society and National Honor Society. 

She has played tennis since fifth grade at Marion, and competed in the No. 1 Singles spot for Marion High School. She earned Academic All-State recognition three years, and she was a Sectional and Regional individual champion. She earned three sportsmanship awards from USTA. She has also won more than 15 local tennis tournaments at singles and doubles. Shaeli also played soccer for Marion High School, and earned Academic All-State recognition three years. She also has served as manager for boys tennis, and is an IHSAA Ambassador.

Shaeli also is vice president of her class and served in the MHS Student Senate; president of the Best Buddies Club; and a member of Key Club, M-Club, and FCA. She is a JROTC cadet and has earned Cadet Challenge and Outstanding STEM Achievement awards. She was a musician with the Marion High School band program, and she played with pep band and jazz band, earning ISSMA Gold with Distinction awards three times. She has also volunteered with MCS Unified Sports, the MHS swim team, and helped coach kids tennis camps. 

She plans to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette to major in pharmaceutical science and pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Her career goal is to become a licensed pharmacist. 

Shaeli is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship, the Beekman-Porter Tennis Scholarship, and the Keller Family Science Scholarship.

 

Kenzie Larson, $2,000 scholarship winner

Kenzie ran with the MHS cross country team all four years, and was named Runner of the Year and is in the top 10 runners of all time at MHS. She also ran with the MHS track and field team all four years, and she earned the Encourager Award. She was also an MHS swimmer for two years. She will continue to run competitively at the collegiate level. 

She is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and the Best Buddies Club. 

She plans to study occupational therapy at Indiana Wesleyan University and plans to pursue a doctorate. Her career goal is to become an occupational therapist who works with people with special needs. 

Kenzie is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Robert Hull Business Scholarship, and the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship.

 

Trevor Morgan, $2,000 scholarship winner

Trevor was a four-year member of the MHS varsity football team, earning 2nd Team All-Conference recognition. He was also a four-year member of the MHS swim team, earning the Mental Attitude Award and the Leadership Award, and serving as team captain. He also competed with the MHS track and field team four four years, two at the varsity level, and was named Field Athlete of the Year. He will continue to compete with the track and field team in shot put, discus, and hammer throw at the collegiate level.

He is Co-President of his class and Chairman of the MHS Student Senate; and a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society. 

Trevor plans to attend Wabash College in Crawfordsville, where he will double major in political science and rhetoric while participating in their pre-law program. He intends to pursue a Juris Doctor degree and work in the legal field. 

Trevor is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship.

 

Jyahira Washington, $2,000 scholarship winner

Jyahira was a four-year member of the MHS track and field team. 

She was also a musician with the MHS band program, playing in symphonic band, wind ensemble, and pep band, and serving as color guard section leader for the Marching Giants. She is a member of National Honor Society and was involved with theater and robotics. She also volunteered at track meets and robotics competitions for lower grade levels.

She plans to attend Indiana University - Indianapolis, where she will study medical imaging technology. Her career goal is to become a radiologic technologist. 

Jyahira is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship, the Keller Family Science Scholarship, and the Jason Taylor Family Scholarship. 

 

JROTC

New this year! For graduating Cadets in the MHS JROTC program.

Lilly Carter, $250 scholarship winner

Lilly is in the top 10 percent of the Marion High School Class of 2026, and she is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and National English Honor Society. 

She served as Battalion Commander for the MHS JROTC program and reached the rank of lieutenant colonel and adjutant officer S1. She competed with the JROTC drill and color guard teams for four years, serving as color guard commander for two. She was a three-year member of the MHS varsity girls tennis team. She was also president of the MHS Latino Student Alliance. 

Lilly plans to attend Indiana University - Fort Wayne, with a career goal of becoming an ultrasound technician and minor in psychology. 

Lilly is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Jason Taylor Family Scholarship. She was also selected for a Grant County Sports Hall of Fame scholarship, which was announced during the MHSAA’s scholarship awards.


Gwynneth Hamilton, $250 scholarship winner

Gwynneth is in the top 10 percent of the Marion High School Class of 2026. 

She was a cadet with the Marion High School JROTC program and reached the rank of command sergeant major. She competed with the JROTC rifle marksmanship team, and she was ranked the fifth-best JROTC marksman in the country in her senior year. She was a two-time qualifier for the Junior Olympics marksmanship competition, and also qualified for the National All-Services Air Rifle Championship. 

She is still considering college options.

 

Robert Hull MHSAA Business Scholarship

For student-athletes who plan to pursue a career in sports marketing, finance, accounting, or business.

Gigi Bunker, $1,000 scholarship winner

Gigi is a high honor roll student and a College Board AP Scholar. She is a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, Student Senate, Key Club, M-Club, and FCA. 

She was a four-year member of the MHS cheerleading team, three on the varsity squad, and earned the Best Mental Attitude Award. She was also selected a Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) All-American. She also played on the MHS tennis team.

Gigi plans to attend Indiana University - Bloomington, where she will study finance at the Kelley School of Business. 

Gigi is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Nellie and Rosie Business, Marketing, and Music Scholarship, and the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship.
 

Jace Freshwater, $1,000 scholarship winner 

Jace was a member of the Marion High School basketball team, earning a sectional championship. 

He plans to study business, and is still considering his college options. He also plans to play basketball at the collegiate level.

Jace is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Kerry Clevenger Athletics Scholarship, and the James Blackmon Family Scholarship.
 

Kenzie Larson, $1,000 scholarship winner 

Kenzie is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Jack and Dave Colescott Scholarship, and the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship.

Evelynn Lopez-Gomez, $1,000 scholarship winner 

Evelynn was cadet in the Marion High School JROTC program and reached the rank of corporal. She competed with the JROTC Raiders team, earning third- and fifth-place national championship awards. She also competed with the JROTC drill and color guard team. 

She was a student athletic trainer for MHS, and she also was a four-year member of the MHS track and field team. She also was a musician with the MHS band program, earning several ISSMA awards. She was selected for the IBA All-District Honor Band and the Grant County Honor Band. She is a member of the Latino Student Alliance, Best Buddies Club, Key Club, and Student Senate. 

Evelynn plans to study exercise science and is still considering her college options. Her career goal is to become an athletic trainer. 

Evelynn is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Jason Taylor Family Scholarship. 

 

Darvjit Rai, $1,000 scholarship winner 

Darvjit is an honor roll student and a member of National Honor Society, Chess Club, the student athletic council, and FCA. He has earned certificates of recognition in Spanish, English, and history. He was also a culinary and hospitality management student at Grant Regional Career Center.

He was a four-year member of the MHS football team, earning the Most Inspiring Defensive Player Award, and a four-year member of the MHS basketball team. He also ran with the MHS track and field team.

Darvjit plans to attend Indiana University - Bloomington, where he will study accounting at the Kelley School of Business. His career goal is either to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or an executive leader in corporate finance, aiming for the level of Chief Financial Officer.

Darvjit was also selected for a Grant County Sports Hall of Fame scholarship, which was announced during the MHSAA’s scholarship awards.

 

Nellie and Rosie Business, Marketing, and Music Scholarship 

For students who plan to further their education in the fields of business, marketing, or music. 

Gigi Bunker, $1,000 scholarship winner

Gigi is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Robert Hull Business Scholarship, and the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship.

Justin Peters, $750 scholarship winner

Justin is a cadet in the Marion High School JROTC program. He competed with the JROTC Raiders team, earning third- and fifth-place national championship awards. He also competed with the JROTC drill and color guard team.  

He was also a musician with the MHS band program, playing in wind ensemble, and jazz ensemble, earning many ISSMA awards. He was a member of the Marching Giants, serving as drum major for one year. He also was a member of the pit orchestra for theatrical performances. He was selected for the IBA All-Region Honor Band and All-District Honor Band, the IJEA All-District Jazz Band, and the Grant County Honor Band. 

Justin was a member of the MHS football team and the track and field team. He is an honor roll student and is a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society.

He plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University and major in music performance. His career goal is to be in the Marine Corps’ Presidents Own Band or the Army’s Field Band. 

 

Zoey Wayman, $500 scholarship winner

Zoey is in the top 10 percent of the Marion High School Class of 2026, and she is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, and National Art Honor Society. She has also earned a Presidential Academic Achievement Award. 

Zoey is a musician with the MHS choir program, earning a Best Sophomore Performer and Outstanding Junior awards, as well as many ISSMA awards. She also served as president of the Varsity Choir. She was selected for the ICDA All-State Honor Choir. She was also selected as an Indiana Ambassador of Music for their 2023 and 2025 European tours. She was also selected for the IMEA Future Music Educators Colloquium. 

She has been in the cast of several theatrical productions through Marion High School and CSA Civic Theatre. She has also earned a photography award. She also was a member of the Marion High School cheerleading team. She has also studied dance since the age of 3, also serving as a teacher’s assistant. 

She plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University to study music education and theatre. Her career goal is to be a choir director and college professor. 

Zoey is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the F. Ritchie Walton Scholarship.
 

 

MHSAA F. Ritchie Walton Scholarship

For students planning to pursue a career in the arts.

Elijah Inskeep, $500 scholarship winner

Elijah ranks third in the Marion High School Class of 2026, and he is a College Board AP Scholar with Honor. He was named an IASP Rising Star. He is a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society and has competed in regional and national mathematics competitions. He has also served as a math tutor for fellow students. 

He is also a student of the CSA Arts Academy, an exclusive partnership between the Marion Community School of the Arts (CSA) and Marion Community Schools that provides pre-professional arts training along with the benefits of a traditional public school. 

Elijah is a member of the CSA Theatre compANY, a rigorous pre-professional program through Marion CSA, which offers training in theatrical performance and tech, dance, and vocal and acting technique. He is a multi-track student, meaning he has studied both performance and production. He has also studied dance for 10 years, and has served as a dance instructor. He has also served as assistant director and director of photography through the CSA film production program. Through the theatre company, he has been in the cast of more than 15 productions, many of which have been part of the Student Performance Series, which offers free shows for area school groups — meaning he has performed in front of more than 15,000 local students over the years. He has also worked as a set and lighting designer for the CSA Children’s Theatre and has served on the stage crew for CSA Civic Theatre, where he also volunteered on construction and renovation projects.

He is a member of the International Thespian Society (the theatre honor society), for which he has served as Vice President and Secretary for Troupe 12404 at CSA. He also has served as a mentor for younger theatre students.

Elijah has also participated in the Disney Imagination Campus program, completing the Disney Broadway Magic and Disney Immersive Storytelling workshops.

He plans to attend Northwestern University to double major in theatre and engineering. His career goal is to become a Disney Imagineer.  

Elijah is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Keller Family Science Scholarship.
 

Lillian Weaver, $500 scholarship winner

Lillian is in the top 10 percent of the Marion High School Class of 2026. She is a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society. 

She is also a student of the CSA Arts Academy, an exclusive partnership between the Marion Community School of the Arts (CSA) and Marion Community Schools that provides pre-professional arts training along with the benefits of a traditional public school. 

Lillian is a member of the CSA Theatre compANY, a rigorous pre-professional program through Marion CSA, which offers training in theatrical performance and tech, dance, and vocal and acting technique, including multiple methodologies. She also has been involved with lighting, scenic, and prop design, as well as directing and choreography. She has studied dance for many years, and has served as a dance instructor. Through the theatre company, she has been in the cast of more than 10 productions, many of which have been part of the Student Performance Series which offers free shows for area school groups — meaning she has performed in front of thousands of local students over the years. 

She is a member of the International Thespian Society (the theatre honor society), for which she has served as President and Clerk for Troupe 12404 at CSA. She was a national qualifier for the Thespy Awards in musical theatre solo. She also has served as a mentor for younger theatre students.

Lillian has also participated in the Disney Imagination Campus program, completing the Disney Broadway Magic and Disney Immersive Storytelling workshops. She was selected for Belmont University’s Vocal Arts Intensive, through which she was able to enhance her vocal training in Nashville, Tennessee.

She is also a local titleholder through the Miss America Organization, which has provided a variety of community service opportunities. She was a finalist and overall interview winner for Miss Indiana’s Teen.

Lillian plans to attend Viterbo University’s Conservatory for the Performing Arts to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in musical theatre and minor in arts administration and dance. Her career goal is to be a professional performer, and her dream is to be a Disney World character performer, a lead vocalist on Disney Cruise Lines, and a cast member of national theatrical tours and Broadway productions.
 

Kaylah Spaulding, $500 scholarship winner

Kaylah is also a student of the CSA Arts Academy, an exclusive partnership between the Marion Community School of the Arts (CSA) and Marion Community Schools that provides pre-professional arts training along with the benefits of a traditional public school. 

Kaylah is a member of the CSA Theatre compANY, a rigorous pre-professional program through Marion CSA, which offers training in theatrical performance and tech, dance, and vocal and acting technique, including multiple methodologies. She also has served as a mentor for younger theatre students. Through the theatre company, he has been in the cast of more than 10 productions, many of which have been part of the Student Performance Series which offers free shows for area school groups — meaning she has performed in front of thousands of local students over the years. 

She is a member of the International Thespian Society (the theatre honor society) Troupe 12404 at CSA. She earned a Superior rating in duet musical theatre in the Thespy Awards at the International Thespian Festival, where she was selected for the Grace Kelly Training Scholarship. 

She has also participated in the Disney Imagination Campus program, completing the Disney Broadway Magic and Disney Immersive Storytelling workshops. She earned the Best Actress Award at the Envision Film Festival at Taylor University, and she was selected for University of North Carolina School of the Arts’ Summer Drama Intensive. 

Kaylah plans to attend the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in acting. She is planning to enroll in a conservatory training program and is still comparing college offers. Her career goal is to be a professional performer, and she is also considering applied theater, which uses theatrical practices in non-traditional settings to address social issues and promote change.

Keller Family Science Scholarship

For students planning to pursue a career in a science field.

Shaeli Castaneda, $200 scholarship winner

Shaeli is also a recipient of other scholarships facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship, the Jack and Dave Colescott Scholarship, and the Beekman-Porter Tennis Scholarship.

Dakhota Daley, $200 scholarship winner

Dakhota ranks second in the Marion High School Class of 2026, and she is president of National Honor Society and a member of Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society, National Science Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society). She was named an IASP Rising Star. 

She is a section leader for the MHS band program, playing with wind ensemble and the Marching Giants and earning several ISSMA awards. She was selected for the IBA All-Region Honor Band and All-District Honor Band, and the Grant County Honor Band. She was also selected as an Indiana Ambassador of Music for their 2025 European tour.

Dakhota is a four-year member of the MHS track and field team, advancing to regional and earning Academic All-Star Honorable Mention. She is vice president for the Class of 2026, and is an officer in Student Senate. She has received awards for excellence in art, chemistry, history, and Spanish. She has also studied dance, and has served as a dance instructor. 

She plans to attend the University of Chicago to study neuroscience on a pre-medicine track. Her career goal is to become a neurosurgeon.

Dakhota is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Marion Giants Athletic Boosters Scholarship. She was also selected for a James Blackmon Family Scholarship, which was announced during the MHSAA’s scholarship awards.
 

Elijah Inskeep, $200 scholarship winner

Elijah is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the F. Ritchie Walton Scholarship.

Aubry Roedl, $200 scholarship winner

Aubry ranks sixth in the Marion High School Class of 2026. She is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society, and Spanish Honor Society.  

She is a three-year member of the MHS girls tennis team, earning All-NCC Second Team honors; a three-year member of the MHS girls basketball team, earning All-NCC honors; and a four-year member of the MHS volleyball team, earning All-NCC and All-Academic honors; and a two-year member of the MHS cheerleading team, earning All-American honors. She is also a member of Key Club, and has volunteered for youth sports camps, community cleanups, and more. 

Aubry plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University and major in nursing. Her career goal is to become a registered nurse and then a nurse practitioner.

Raven Sollars, $200 scholarship winner

Raven ranks seventh in the Marion High School Class of 2026. She is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society, and Spanish Honor Society.  

She is a four-year member of the MHS girls soccer team, earning All-NCC honors. She also has participated in the Indy Premier and olympic development soccer systems. She also was a member of the MHS basketball and swim teams. She is also a member of the Key Club and the M-Club.

Raven plans to study nursing and biochemistry and is still considering college options. Her career goal is to become a pediatric oncology nurse and then a nurse practitioner.

Assists students in overcoming obstacles to reach for their dreams.

Lilly Carter, $5,000 scholarship winner

Lilly is also a recipient of another scholarship facilitated by the Marion High School Alumni Association: the Jake and Dave Colescott Scholarship. She was also selected for a Grant County Sports Hall of Fame scholarship, which was announced during the MHSAA’s scholarship awards.

Aubry Roedl, $2,500

Beekman-Porter Tennis Scholarship

Helps tennis players to reach for their dreams.

Shaeli Castaneda, $600 scholarship winner

Nyla Hubartt, $400 scholarship winner

Nyla is in the top 10 percent of the Marion High School Class of 2026. She is a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society. 

She is a four-year member of the MHS girls tennis team, competing in the No. 1 Doubles spot and earning All-NCC and All-Academic honors. She also earned Teamwork and Best Spirit awards. She is also a member of the Green Society and Best Buddies Club. She also earned the Spirit Award through the Distinguished Young Women scholarship program.

Nyla will graduate with her Associate’s Degree from Ivy Tech along with her MHS high school diploma. 

Nyla plans to attend Indiana University - Bloomington to study environmental science at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Her career goal is to become an environmental scientist with the Department of Natural Resources, and she is also interested in environmental law.

Chayim Hofmann, $300 scholarship winner

Chayim is in the top 5 percent of the Marion High School Class of 2026. He is vice president of Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Society and a member of National Honor Society. 

He is a section leader for the MHS band program, playing with wind ensemble and jazz band and earning several ISSMA awards. He also is a member of the pep band. He was selected for the IBA All-Region Honor Band and the Grant County Honor Band.

Chayim played for the MHS boys tennis team, and he served as manager for the girls tennis team. He was also a member of the MHS camera crew for live athletics coverage and more.

Chayim plans to attend Ball State University to study media with a sports reporting concentration. His career goal is to work in sports broadcasting.

Kerry Clevenger Athletics Scholarship

Assists student-athletes in overcoming obstacles to reach for their dreams.

Jace Freshwater, $2000 scholarship winner
