Muncie, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens, in partnership with Red-tail Land Conservancy, Delaware County Invasive Plant Project, the Master Gardeners of Delaware County, and the East Central chapter of the Indiana Native Plant Society, invites the community to come together for the annual Community Seed Swap & Giveaway, taking place March 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Now in its 8th year, the Community Seed Swap & Giveaway has become a favorite spring tradition—bringing together gardeners, families, and nature enthusiasts to celebrate sustainable gardening, biodiversity, and shared stewardship of the land. The event reflects Minnetrista’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and community connection.
Attendees are invited to browse and exchange a wide variety of seeds, including native flowers and vegetables, available free of charge while supplies last. While bringing seeds is optional, participants are encouraged to bring clean, labeled heirloom seeds to swap. Sharing seeds helps preserve biodiversity, strengthen local ecosystems, and foster resilience for future growing seasons.
“Sharing seeds is sharing community,” says Linda Shreve, programs and event gardener at Minnetrista. “Across every culture and every generation, one thing binds us together—we all gather to eat. When we grow food from shared seeds, we’re not just cultivating plants; we’re cultivating connection at the table.”
In addition to the seed exchange, guests can engage with local gardening and conservation organizations, participate in hands-on activities, and learn practical tips for sustainable growing—whether they’re seasoned gardeners or planting their very first seeds.
The Community Seed Swap & Giveaway will take place alongside Minnetrista’s indoor Farmers Market, held the same day from 9 a.m. to noon in the Center Building. Ample parking will be available in the main lot.
Community members are encouraged to stop by, share what they grow, and take part in a morning rooted in learning, generosity, and growth. For more information, visit minnetrista.net. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for the most up-to-date information on our exhibitions and events.
